OTHER STUFF

We usually have some things to offer. We are always trying a new jelly recipe or making an old favorite. We have flowers and herbs for sale most of the time. We also make birdhouses and wind chimes using whatever we have or we scrounge.

FLOWERS AND HERBS

One of my grandmothers truly loved flowers. Some of my earliest memories with her are strolling around the daylily beds as she pointed out the different blooms and told me their names. She showed me how to remove the seed pods and how to divide the plants. I have one plant from her garden and wherever I go, it goes. It is a large golden bloomed daylily named Pappy Gates.

We have about 20 different daylilies now and offer divisions in our shop. Fall and spring are the best times to plant these but they are almost indestructible. We also grow herbs for cooking, for the bees and to share.

VEGGIES AND FRUITS

Figs are my favorite fruit. Period. We have two fig trees now, a Brown Turkey and an LSU Purple. We also have a white mulberry tree that I can tell you the birds absolutely love. Blueberry bushes, pear trees, blackberry canes, loquat, satsuma, pomegranate, quince and persimmon trees are planted and we are hoping to have increasing harvests in the next couple of years. Muscadine vines are thriving and we are reluctantly sharing with the fox squirrels.
Vegetables are planted in the spring and the fall. Root vegetables are a family favorite. In addition to vegetables and fruits , we have hazelnut bushes and an asparagus bed.
